Egal ob chirurgischer Eingriff oder prothetische Versorgung – in der Implantologie birgt jede therapeutische Maßnahme Risiken. Komplikationen und Misserfolge sind darum nie auszuschließen.
Natürlich gilt es, alles zu tun, um Fehlschläge zu vermeiden. Kommt es dennoch zu Komplikationen oder einem Misserfolg, kann ein Wechsel der Perspektive wichtig und hilfreich sein: Den vermeidlichen Behandlungsfehler zum Erkenntnisgewinn zu nutzen und ihn als Chance zu begreifen, macht ihn zu einem „Lerngeschenk“. Dieses hilft, Risiken zu mindern und Fehler zu vermeiden – und trägt so dazu bei, Behandlungsergebnisse zu verbessern.
Ziel unserer Tagung in Dresden ist es daher, nicht nur die Risiken von implantologischen Therapien in den Mittelpunkt zu stellen, sondern auch, aus den Komplikationen und Misserfolgen erfahrener Kolleginnen und Kollegen zu lernen. Wir alle können so Strategien zur Fehlervermeidung und Lösungsansätze bei Misserfolgen mit nach Hause nehmen. Das ist die Transformation des Misserfolgs zum Lerngeschenk!

Professor Dr. med. Dr. med. dent. Bilal Al-Nawas is Chairman of the Department of Oral, Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery at the J. Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. He has been Adjunctive Associate Professor at Kyung Hee University School of Dentistry, Seoul, Korea since 2009. Professor Al-Nawas’ major clinical and scientific focus in dental implantology is on clinical studies and basic research. His clinical field of work is compromised patients with risk factors or local bone deficiency, as well as tumor and cleft reconstructions. He has published over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He sits on the ITI Board of Directors and the ITI Research Committee, is an ITI Fellow and ITI Education Delegate of the ITI Section Germany. He was twice awarded “Best Teacher at the Medical Faculty”. He is Past President of the International Federation of Dental Anesthesiology Societies (IFDAS) and Secretary General of the German Society of Implantology (DGI).
From 1994 to 1999, Prof. Dr. Florian Beuer studied at the Dental School of the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, Germany, where he gained his license to practice (DDS) in 2000. From 2000 to 2001, he worked as an employed dentist in a private practice. In 2002, he became assistant professor in the Department of Prosthodontics of the Ludwig Maximilian University and made his Dissertation (Dr. med. dent.) in the same year. He became Specialist in Implantology (German Society for Implantology) in 2005. From 2007 to 2008, he worked as a Visiting Professor at the Pacific Dental Institute in Portland, Oregon (Director: John A. Sorensen DMD, PhD). His habilitation (Priv. Doz., PhD) was in 2009 at the LMU. From 2009 to 2015, he was the Vice President of the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ästhetische Zahnheilkunde (DGAEZ)". In 2010, he became an Expert in Prosthodontics after a further education at DGPro. Since 2011, Prof. Buer is a board member of the Team AG Ceramics. In the same year, he became the editor of the "Teamwork Journal of Continuing Dental Education". Since 2014, he was full Professor at Ludwig Maximilians University until 2015, when he became the Chairman of the Department of Prosthodontics at the Charité University of Medicine Berlin. He is also a Board Member of the German Society for Implantology (DGI).He gained his Master of Medical Education MME (University of Heidelberg) in 2015.
Daniel Buser, DDS, Prof em Dr med dent, is one of the most experienced international implant surgeons, with 35 years of surgical experience. He is past professor and chairman in the Department of Oral Surgery at the University of Bern in Switzerland and past president of the European Association for Osseointegration, the Swiss Society of Oral Implantology, the Swiss Society of Oral Surgery and Stomatology, and the International Team for Implantology (ITI). He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the ITI Honorary Fellowship and the Morton Amsterdam Award. He has authored and coauthored over 400 publications and is editor of 30 Years of Guided Bone Regeneration (Quintessence, 2021), which was recently published in its third edition. Dr Buser is cofounder of the Buser & Sculean Academy, which offers continuing education courses in periodontology and implant dentistry, and lectures nationally and internationally.
Vincent Fehmer, MDT, received his dental technical education and degree in Stuttgart, Germany, before completing fellowships in Great Britain and the United States in Oral Design–certified dental technical laboratories. After working several years in such a laboratory in Berlin, he received his MDT degree and became the chief dental technician at the Clinic for Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics in Zurich, Switzerland. Since 2015, he has been a dental technician at the Clinic for Fixed Prosthodontics and Biomaterials in Geneva, Switzerland. He also runs his own laboratory in Lausanne. Mr Fehmer is a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology, an active member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED), and a member of the Oral Design group as well as the European Association of Dental Technology (EADT) and the German Society of Esthetic Dentistry (DGÄZ). He is a sought-after international speaker and has received many honors for his work, including the Kenneth Rudd Award from the American Prosthodontic Society. He has published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed journals within the field of fixed prosthodontics and digital dental technology, contributed to many books, and recently coauthored the book Fixed Restorations: A Clinical Guide to the Selection of Materials and Fabrication Technology with Irena Sailer and Bjarni Pjetursson. Mr Fehmer also serves as editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry, editor-in-chief of Quintessence of Dental Technology, and Section Editor for the International Journal of Prosthodontics.
Prof. Dominik Groß holds a doctorate in dentistry, medicine, and the humanities. He has been Professor of History, Theory, and Ethics of Medicine and has held the chair of the same title at RWTH Aachen University since 2005. Prof. Groß has been involved in education and research in History and Ethics of Dentistry for many years. In addition, he chairs the Ethics Working Group of the DGZMK, is an expert for the 3rd section of the dental examination at the IMPP and is a reviewer for the NKLZ.

Dr. Arndt Happe graduated from dental school in 1994, having studied at Westfälische Wilhelms University, Münster. Following post-graduate studies with Professor Fouad Khoury and successful specialization in oral surgery, he obtained his doctoral degree in 1996. At that time he had already been active as a speaker and co-author of national and international publications in the field of oral implantology. Since 1999, Dr. Happe has worked as an oral surgeon in private practice in Münster, with a professional focus on both oral implantology (since 2000) and periodontology (since 2004). He taught in various postgraduate programs offered by the German Association of Oral Implantology (DGI), the European Association of Dental Implantologists (BDIZ EDI), the German Association of Esthetic Dentistry (DGÄZ) and the German Society for Periodontology (DGP), as well as in the “Periodontology and Implant Therapy” master program of the DGP in cooperation with Dresden International University. In addition, Dr. Happe is an external research assistant at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Plastic Surgery, Oral Surgery and Implantology at the University of Cologne (Director: Professor Joachim E. Zöller). He is an affiliate of the prestigious European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED).
Dental studies in Freiburg from 1980 to 1985, completed PhD in 1987, worked in the prosthodontics department of the dental clinic in Freiburg from 1985 to 1991 and 1994 to 1997. Conducted research funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, USA, from 1991 to 1993. Achieved habilitation in 1995. Appointed as director of the Department of Dental Prosthetics, Propaedeutics, and Materials Science at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel in 1997. Became chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein Society for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (SHGZMK) in 2004. Served as vice president of the German Society of Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials (DGPro) from 2008 to 2012, and as president of the DGPro from 2012 to 2016. In December 2011, became the first German scientist to receive the Schweitzer Research Award from the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics (GNYAP). Research interests include adhesive prosthodontics, all-ceramic restorations, implantology, and materials science.
Prof. Dr. Fouad Khoury received his dental education at the Saint Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon, and his specialization in Oral Surgery at the Universities of Freiburg and Münster, Germany. He was Assistant Professor at the University of Münster, where he completed his PhD and Scientific Habilitation degree. Since 1994, Prof. Khoury has been Full Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the University of Münster, and Director of the Privatzahnklinik Schloss Schellenstein, Olsberg, Germany. For many years, he has been a visiting professor at several universities, the Chairperson of the Examination Committee for Oral Surgery, and a member of the editorial board of many international journals. Prof. Khoury is currently Chairperson of the Oral and Jaw Surgery Society (AGOKI) of the German Association for Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine (DGZMK), and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Oral Implantology. He has received several awards (eg, the Pioneers in Dentistry award 2016 AUB, and the William R. Laney Award of the American Academy of Osseointegration 2017) and holds many patents. Prof. Khoury is the author and editor of four bestseller textbooks that have been translated into more than 10 languages.

In 2019, she received an Honorary Skou Professorship of digital dental technologies, fixed and implant prosthodontics, and biomaterials at Aarhus University, Denmark. Dr Sailer is editor-in-chief of The International Journal of Prosthodontics and coauthor of over 150 peer-reviewed publications as well as the books Fixed Restorations: A Clinical Guide to the Selection of Materials and Fabrication Technology (Quintessence, 2021) and Color in Dentistry (2017). She holds several patents on esthetic coatings of dental/medical devices and a digital dental splint.
Prof. Dr. Dr. Eik Schiegnitz is Head of the Division of Implantology at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Mainz, Germany. He obtained his medical degree (2009) from the University of Giessen and his dental degree (2013) from the University of Mainz. In 2008 he received his degree as Bachelor of Health Sciences (Riedlingen, Germany). In 2020 he obtained the Master of Science Implantology und Parodontology at the University of Witten/Herdecke. Since 2019 he is Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI Fellow). Since 2020 he is Spokesman of the Leadership-Teams of the National Osteology Group Germany. Since 2021 he is Board Member of the DGI (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Implantologie) and since 2022 he is Chief-Editor of the International Journal of Implant Dentistry (IJID). Since 2023 he is part of the Leadership-Team (Education Delegate) of the International Team for Implantology Germany.
Frank Schwarz is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Oral Surgery and Implantology at the Centre for Dentistry and Oral Medicine (Carolinum), Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt, Germany. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Periodontology and Editorial Board Member for Periodontology 2000, Clinical Oral Implants Research and Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research. He is a Member of the Board of Directors of the European Association for Osseointegration – EAO, Executive Board Member of the Osteology Foundation, and Past President of the German Association of Oral Implantology (DGI). He was awarded the André Schröder Research Prize in 2007, the Miller Research Prize in 2012 and the Jan Lindhe Award in 2017.
Anton Sculean is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Periodontology and currently the Head of the Dental Research Center (DRC) of the School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland. Prof. Sculean has authored more than 470 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 35 chapters in periodontal textbooks and has delivered more than 600 lectures at national and international meetings. He is Past President of the Periodontal Research Group of the IADR, of the Swiss Society of Periodontology, of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) and of the International Academy of Periodontology (IAP). Michael Stimmelmayr became a research assistant at Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich upon graduation in dentistry from the University of Regensburg. He obtained his doctoral degree in 1992 and his specialization as oral surgeon in 1997, serving as assistant medical director at the Chair for Prosthodontics. In 2000 he opened his own practice in Cham, with a professional focus on oral implantology and specialization in periodontology.
Istvan Urban, DMD, MD, PhD, teaches implant dentistry in the graduate program at Loma Linda University in California and is also an adjunct clinical associate professor in the Department of Periodontology and Oral Medicine at the University of Michigan. He has published widely on bone regeneration and soft tissue reconstructive surgery around dental implants and is the author of the textbooks Vertical and Horizontal Ridge Augmentation: New Perspectives (Quintessence, 2017) and Vertical 2: The Next Level of Hard and Soft Tissue Augmentation (2022). Dr Urban is licensed in the state of California and maintains a private practice in Budapest, Hungary.

Internationally renowned for his achievements in the fields of periodontal and peri-implant diseases as well as esthetic periodontal soft tissue corrections, Dr. Zuhr is one of the world's leading oral surgeons. Together with Prof. Dr. Hürzeler, he wrote a specialist book in 2011 which, according to his colleagues, is "without doubt one of the most important oral surgery publications of recent years and a must-read for every periodontist and implantologist." Dr. Zuhr studied dentistry in Aachen and in the USA. He is a specialist in Periodontology and has been a board member of the German Society of Periodontology since 2007.
