Single-implant treatment has become an integral component of many dental practices as patients demand permanent and more esthetic solutions for their missing teeth. While this method of tooth replacement is fairly predictable and has shown great success, complications do still occur, especially when proper implant biomechanics are not observed. This book details the seven complications common to single-implant therapy—infraposition/infraocclusion, interproximal contact loss, abutment screw loosening and fracture, fracture of single implants, ceramic chipping and fracture, loss of crown retention, and remake of the implant-supported crown—and describes the 25 biomechanical principles that must be observed to prevent these complications from developing after single-implant treatment. Furthermore, it links each complication with the specific biomechanical principles that were violated and how that violation resulted in said complication, as well as how to manage that complication and prevent it from recurring in the future. By the end of this book, readers should know how to address these three questions: What went wrong? Why did things go wrong? And how could the complication have been prevented?

Charles J. Goodacre DDS, MSD
Vereinigte Staaten von AmerikaDr. Goodacre, DDS, MSD, ist seit über 50 Jahren als Prothetiker und Implantologe tätig und war Vorsitzender der Abteilung für Prothetik an der Indiana University sowie Dekan der Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Er ist Mitglied des American Board of Prosthodontics und ehemaliger Präsident des American Board of Prosthodontics, des American College of Prosthodontists und der Academy of Prosthodontics. Dr. Goodacre war Gründungsmitglied des Vorstands der Foundation for Oral Rehabilitation (FOR) und leitete 10 Jahre lang den FOR-Bildungsrat. Derzeit hat er den Titel eines Distinguished Professor inne und unterrichtet im Advanced Education Program in Implant Dentistry an der Loma Linda University.

Nach Abschluss seiner Ausbildung zum Prothetiker diente er im Dental Corps der US-Luftwaffe, hatte anschließend verschiedene akademische Positionen an mehreren zahnmedizinischen Fakultäten inne, schied im Rang eines Oberst aus dem Militärdienst aus und wurde später stellvertretender Dekan für Fortbildung an der Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Dr. Naylor hat zahlreiche Bücher, Buchkapitel und Abstracts verfasst und Artikel in vielen Fachzeitschriften veröffentlicht. Außerdem hat er gemeinsam mit Dr. Charles J. Goodacre drei E-Books über Implantologie für die Foundation for Oral Rehabilitation herausgegeben. Sein Lehrbuch „Introduction to Metal-Ceramic Technology“ liegt in der dritten Auflage vor (Quintessence, 2018). Zu seinen weiteren Veröffentlichungen zählen vier Bücher über persönliche Finanzen und Geldanlagen.
