Dental studies in Freiburg from 1980 to 1985, completed PhD in 1987, worked in the prosthodontics department of the dental clinic in Freiburg from 1985 to 1991 and 1994 to 1997. Conducted research funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, USA, from 1991 to 1993. Achieved habilitation in 1995. Appointed as director of the Department of Dental Prosthetics, Propaedeutics, and Materials Science at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel in 1997. Became chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein Society for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (SHGZMK) in 2004. Served as vice president of the German Society of Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials (DGPro) from 2008 to 2012, and as president of the DGPro from 2012 to 2016. In December 2011, became the first German scientist to receive the Schweitzer Research Award from the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics (GNYAP). Research interests include adhesive prosthodontics, all-ceramic restorations, implantology, and materials science.
In 1989, completed dental studies in Hamburg, received a scholarship from the Friedrich-Naumann Foundation, and completed overseas internships in Boston (Mass. Gen. Hospital, Harvard) and New York (NYU). Worked as a research assistant at the Polyclinic for Dental Preservation and Preventive Dentistry at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. In 1992, started leading the CMD clinic at the UKE (together with Dr. Jakstat). Conducted experimental research on the prevention of cleft lip and palate during doctoral studies in 1992. Received six conference awards from the German Society for Dental, Oral and Craniomandibular Sciences (DGFDT) between 1996 and 2016. Became a senior physician in 1997. Appointed as the Secretary General of the German Society for Dental, Oral and Craniomandibular Sciences (DGFDT) in 2001. Started teaching responsibilities at the Polyclinic for Dental Preservation and Preventive Dentistry in 2003. Completed habilitation in adhesive technology in 2004 and was appointed as a private lecturer. Founded and directed the CMD Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in 2005. Became an Associate Editor of the Journal of Craniomandibular Function (CMF) in 2008. Received the Alex Motsch Prize for Science from the DGFDT in 2015 and 2016. As of 2017, published over 150 papers and patents, including peer-reviewed articles, 18 guidelines, 2 textbooks in multiple editions, various textbook chapters, developed CMDfact diagnosis software and additional modules with Prof. Jakstat, and presented at numerous continuing education courses and conferences.
From 1994 to 1999, Prof. Dr. Florian Beuer studied at the Dental School of the Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, Germany, where he gained his license to practice (DDS) in 2000. From 2000 to 2001, he worked as an employed dentist in a private practice. In 2002, he became assistant professor in the Department of Prosthodontics of the Ludwig Maximilian University and made his Dissertation (Dr. med. dent.) in the same year. He became Specialist in Implantology (German Society for Implantology) in 2005. From 2007 to 2008, he worked as a Visiting Professor at the Pacific Dental Institute in Portland, Oregon (Director: John A. Sorensen DMD, PhD). His habilitation (Priv. Doz., PhD) was in 2009 at the LMU. From 2009 to 2015, he was the Vice President of the "Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ästhetische Zahnheilkunde (DGAEZ)". In 2010, he became an Expert in Prosthodontics after a further education at DGPro. Since 2011, Prof. Buer is a board member of the Team AG Ceramics. In the same year, he became the editor of the "Teamwork Journal of Continuing Dental Education". Since 2014, he was full Professor at Ludwig Maximilians University until 2015, when he became the Chairman of the Department of Prosthodontics at the Charité University of Medicine Berlin. He is also a Board Member of the German Society for Implantology (DGI).He gained his Master of Medical Education MME (University of Heidelberg) in 2015.
Daniel Edelhoff granted his Certified Dental Technician degree from the Dental technician school in Düsseldorf, Germany. He graduated from Dental School in 1991 and earned his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from the University of Aachen, Germany in 1994. He served as Visiting Professor at the Dental Clinical Research Center of the Oregon Health and Sciences University, Portland, Oregon from 1999 to 2001. He granted his Ph.D. in June 2003 at the University of Aachen and is currently Director and Chair at the Department of Prosthodontics and Dental Material Sciences at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. Daniel Edelhoff is board certified Specialist in Prosthodontics and holds membership in the German Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and the German Society Dental Prosthetics and Biomaterial Sciences (DGPro). He is Vice-President of the Association of Dental Technology (ADT), member of the advisory board of the DGPro, Associate Member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (AAED) and International College of Dentists (ICD), as well as Scientific Chairman of the 8th World Congress of the International Federation of Esthetic Dentistry (IFED) 2013 in Munich. Daniel Edelhoff received in 2010 the award "Best Lecture" by the Association of Dental Technology (ADT), in 2011 the award "Best article of the year" by the Italian Dental Dialogue Journal, and in 2011/2012/2013 three awards "Best Teacher" by the dental students of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University and the Bavarian Association of Dentists. Since 2014 he is Active Member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED) as well as Associate Editor of the multidisciplinary international research journal Clinical Oral Investigations.
Dr. Gierthmühlen, graduated and received her DDS from Albert-Ludwigs University, Freiburg, Germany in 2001. She was an Assistant Professor (2001-2006) at the Department of Prosthodontics (Chair Prof. Dr Dr. h.c. J.R. Strub), University, Freiburg, Germany and is a Board certified Prosthodontist (2005) of the German Society of Prosthodontics and Dental Materials (DGPro). From 2006-2009 she was a Visiting Scientist at the Department of Biomaterials & Biomimetics (Chair Prof. Dr. V.P. Thompson), NYU, New York, USA. In 2009 Dr. Guess was appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Prosthodontics, University, Freiburg, where she accomplished the Habilitation in 2011. Since 2016 she is Professor and Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics at the Heinrich-Heine University in Duesseldorf, Germany.

Prof. Dr. R. J. Kohal, born in 1961, studied dentistry at the University of Freiburg, Germany from 1984 to 1989 and received his Dr. med. dent. from the same university in 1991. From 1990 to 1993, he worked as an assistant in the Prosthetic Department of the University Dental Clinic in Freiburg. From 1993 to 1995, he was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Texas in Houston, USA. Since 1995, he has been a senior physician at the Department of Dental Prosthetics at Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, Germany, and a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas in Houston, USA. In 1996, he was appointed as an academic councilor, in 1998 as an academic senior councilor, and in 2001 as an academic director and deputy medical director. In 1998, he qualified as a "specialist" of the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials e.V. In 2002, he received his habilitation and was appointed as a private lecturer. In the same year, he was certified as a focus area implantologist by the Implantology Consensus Conference. In 2003, he was certified as a speaker in the focus area implantology by the Implantology Consensus Conference. In 2005, he was awarded the title of "Extraordinary Professor" by the University of Freiburg.
After completing his degree in plastics engineering, Prof Rosentritt took over the coordination and scientific management of the Materials Science Laboratory at the Department of Prosthodontics at the UKR University Hospital Regensburg. Over the following years, he established materials science and biological procedures for application-oriented material research. He earned his PhD on zirconia ceramics at the ACTA University of Amsterdam, NL, and habilitated on the topic of materials science characterization of dental materials, receiving his venia legendi at the University of Regensburg. Prof Rosentritt is active as a speaker nationally and internationally. He is the author of over 250 scientific publications and co-editor and author of dental textbooks. He is a member of various dental associations (DGPro, IADR, CED, EDM) and is active as an expert reviewer and in the editorial board of various national and international scientific journals, as well as a scientific advisor to working groups and societies.
