How we choose and evaluate color in monolithic restorations requires new parameters. Choosing the correct library requires a protocol that does not exist… in my presentation I am going to try to put things in order by looking for new protocols that will help us in this new era.

Colour Perception in Dentistry: Enhancing Aesthetic Outcomes ZTM Sascha Hein
Achieving the right color match in dentistry is crucial for patient satisfaction and aesthetic excellence. This presentation focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of different tools used in dental practices to measure tooth color. We examined six commonly used devices and explored how well they match colors as perceived by the human eye, guided by feedback from expert observers. Surprisingly, simpler methods outperforms more complex systems, challenging assumptions about the need for advanced technology for accurate color matching.
Through targeted fine tuning, visual-instrumental agreement can be improved even further. This presentation is designed to offer practical insights for dental practitioners and dental technicians, highlighting that with the right adjustments, instrumental shade measurement can lead to improved results, ensuring that restorations blend seamlessly with natural teeth. This work aims to simplify the science of color matching for dental professionals, making it easier to achieve the desired aesthetic outcomes for their patients.

Enter the Cube; Craniofacial Spatial Arrangement Redefined via the BaseLine Dr. Panagiotis Bazos, Prof. Dr. Diogo Miguel Viegas
The diagnostic template serves as the point of origin for any facially generated treatment plan in the modern restorative practice. Thus an accurate and precise maxillo-mandibular three dimensional spatial registration will provide the dental team with a flawless workflow, maximizing efficiency and effectiveness, when working in either the conventional (manual) or contemporary (digital) modes.
The position of the occlusal plane in the patient and the articulator is an essential link for achieving the functional and esthetic goals of the anticipated treatment plan. Patient specific anatomic craniofacial landmarks within the frontal, transverse and sagittal planes will be thouroughly explored and analyzed.
Participants will learn how to mitigate transfer errors and increase accuracy via specific BaseLine driven photographic and radiographic protocols in addition to utilising the OneBite Evolution in an analogue or digital workflow, aiding both clinicians and technicians to systematically manage the proper spatial orientation of the maxillary cast.

The Use of Rubber Dam in Restorative Dentistry: I love you-neither do I Dr. Stephane Browet, Dr. David Gerdolle
It is accepted that preparing bonded restorations under rubber dam presents numerous benefits, insofar as it preserves the dentin from any pre- and postoperative contamination and improves the bond strength when preparation and immediate adhesive sealing of the dentin are carried out simultaneously. Moreover, when the rubber dam is installed at the start of the clinical procedure, it prevents contamination by bacterial flora from the patient’s mouth, thereby reducing the risk of infection.
Rubber dam by definition combines isolation and retraction of peripheral soft tissues, there is no more opportune and easier time to take the impression of the preparations. The advent of the digital brings a real upgrade from this point of view. Different clinical studies have shown that teeth migrations are very likely to occur when a rubber dam is used though. Undesirable dental migrations would prevent creating efficient proximal contacts or on the contrary would lead to the need to carry out many adjustments of the same proximal contacts at the time of luting.
The aim of this presentation is then to share the results of our retrospective clinical evaluations in order to combine the advantages of rubber dam isolation with operative accuracy.

Restoration of large defects in the posterior region with a direct composite restoration is possible, although this is not an easy task for the dentist. The most durable, minimally invasive restoration of posterior teeth with large defects is the indirect bonded partial lithium disilicate glass ceramic restoration (onlay, partial crown).
During this lecture, the ‘when, why and how’ of partial indirect bonded restorations in the posterior region will be discussed.

More and more patients are presenting to the clinic with severe erosive lesions, seeking treatment that addresses both aesthetic and functional concerns to regain a better quality of life.
Global rehabilitations can prove to be quite challenging for inexperienced practitioners, and all too often, partial management of these patients leads to unsatisfactory compromises. In this presentation, we will explore how to treat these patients simply with a minimally invasive and biomimetic approach.
We will also discuss how digital tools can assist us in planning these treatments, aesthetically through relevant smile design software and functionally using a variety of 3D tools. Additionally, we will cover proper occlusion management with simple tools to ensure the best longevity for our treatments.
Our objective is to offer our patients aesthetic, comfortable, and long-lasting treatments, all within reasonable treatment times.

UNIQUE – Exploring singularity through the direct restoration of a single anterior tooth Dr. Joana Garcez
Restoring a central incisor to mirror the natural characteristics of its contralateral counterpart in all dimensions – aesthetic, functional, and biological – presents a formidable challenge, even with the extensive range of materials and techniques available today. The intricacy of mimicking this tooth is heightened by its location in the anterior region, at the heart of the esthetic zone, where even the slightest differences become easily noticeable.
Every tooth is unique! The characteristics of anterior teeth vary from patient to patient; yet, with an organized approach, it’s possible to faithfully reproduce these features. This lecture aims to provide attendees with a profound understanding of the intricate challenges involved in achieving a genuine replication of key aesthetic parameters (color, shape, and texture) through the restoration of a single anterior tooth.

In this joint session, we will discuss in depth several key topics: the significance of Immediate Dentin Sealing (IDS) in veneer treatments, a protocol for bonding to pre-existing composite restorations, the critical role of occlusion, and we will conclude with the pinnacle of our discussion—a bonded bridge that does not require retention wings. Anterior bonded restorations in the digital era: from direct to indirect with a minimum intervention perspective Dr. Javier Tapia Guadix
Achievement of aesthetic anterior restorations that resemble natural teeth represent a great challenge for our daily practice. Additionally, the demand for minimally invasive dentistry is increasing everyday, not only from our patients, but also due to the pressure of our own colleagues. Furthermore, the compromise of mechanical and optical properties by this minimally invasive mindset may affect the clinical outcome when not following strict adhesive protocols.
The digital workflows, including scanning, planning, CAD design and CAM manufacturing can help us to get a faster and durable outcome. However, given the wide variety of techniques and available materials, a rational approach must be utilised to obtain an optimal outcome. From the limitations of analogue and digital, to the limitations of manufacturing, preparation, mechanics and optical behaviour, we need to understand how, when and what we need on each case.
In this lecture I will try to give a commonsensical perspective to achieve beautiful anterior bonded restorations that can meet the expectations of our patients.

Emulation of nature with direct restorative materials Dr. Javier Tapia Guadix
The Bio-Emulation approach as written in structural analysis and visual synthesis defined the new bases to consider for replication of natural tooth structures with composite resin. The penta_laminar concept represents the ultimate implementation of this philosophy: analysing different ageing stages to build a dynamic shade concept that adapts to nature. By analysing the key factors of natural structure’s ageing process and applying this knowledge to the material selection, it is possible to simplify techniques to make them approachable in all situations. From a bi-laminar technique to the penta_laminar technique we can learn to adapt our work in order to optimise the clinical outcome achieving cost-effective treatments to cover our patients needs and expectations.

Luting adhesively indirect restorations: the no-finishing concept
Over the past 30 years, the development of adhesive techniques has thus reduced the biological cost of bonded indirect restorations (in/onlays and veneers). Regarding these restorations, protocols are well standardized, and the literature demonstrates similar or even better success rates than conventional cemented restorations over 20Y follow up.
However, the procedures for bonding to dental tissue are still more demanding than those for conventional cemented prostheses. One of the keys to the durability of indirect adhesive restorations is their ability to prevent bacterial plaque from adhering to their surface. This hands-on will thus describe a clinical protocol for obtaining the smoothest possible prosthetic margins, without resorting to conventional finishing and polishing techniques, which are tedious and time-consuming.

With his unique perspective on all essential facets of ceramic art and technology, Thomas will show how he approaches a highly aesthetic outcome on an anterior case, using Creation ́s Zi-CT ceramic system, creating his so called “Unicorn Crown™” including all possible natural effects.

This workshop is about the ‘Injectable Veneer Technique’ that enables the clinician to generate single-visit composite veneers in a very simple. The workshop consists of a lecture and an hands-on part which will cover the clinical opportunities and limitations of this novel technique. The composite material selection, Iveneer matrix selection, adaptation, injection, and emulation of natural dental morphology will be mentioned in details. Also, the possible reasons for failure will be discussed through several clinical cases. Full Digital Patient Journey: Create, Emulate and Communicate using Smile Creator Prof. Dr. Diogo Miguel Viegas
The goal of this workshop is to guide dental professionals through the entire Smile Creator process. Participants will go in-depth on how to use this platform to change patient care from the first consultation to the end result.
An overview of the digital patient experience will be given at the start of the workshop with focus on how Smile Creator fits into each step of the planning and implementation of dental treatment. Participants will have the ability to produce intricate digital representations of dental patients’ anatomy, facilitating accurate planning and result simulation.

Dr. Panagiotis Bazos DDS

Dr. Panaghiotis “Panos” Bazos received his DDS from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 2000. He served as an Assistant Professor at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, Division of Primary Oral Health, Los Angeles, CA. from 2005-2007, mentoring undergraduate dental students in the disciplines of Dental Morphology and Restorative Dentistry under the supervision of Dr. Pascal Magne, the Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation Chair in Esthetic Dentistry, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. Upon returning to Europe, he maintained a private practice limited to aesthetic and restorative dentistry in Athens, Greece. In 2011 he founded the Bio-EmulationTM Group which constitutes a global think tank that promotes clinical excellence in dental restorative techniques when combined with interdisciplinary approaches. From 2013-2016 he completed his postgraduate specialist degree (MClinDent) in Orthodontics and Dento-facial Orthopaedics at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and has qualified with the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MOrth RCS Edin). He is the inventor and the developer of the polar_eyes reflective cross polarisation filter, custom_eyes histo-anatomic injection mould, Bio-Replica histo-anatomic archetype models and recently the co-developer of the OneBite Evolution maxillary plane Cranio-facial registration apparatus. Currently he resides with his family on the Peloponnese in the coastal town of Aigio, Greece and maintains practices limited to Orthodontics and Restorative Dentistry in Athens, Patras and Aigio. In his spare time he moonlights as the line cook at SoCal Cantina.

Dr. Jean David Boschatel

Dr. Boschatel graduated from the Marseille Faculty in 2010 and has since completed numerous post-graduate training programs, including one at New York University. He primarily practices in Aix-en-Provence, with an additional practice in Paris. His focus is on aesthetics and full mouth rehabilitation, especially for patients experiencing dental erosion and wear. His rehabilitations utilize the latest digital tools, ensuring precise and predictable outcomes. He is dedicated to offering minimally invasive rehabilitation that achieves highly aesthetic and biomimetic results. Half of his professional time is devoted to training colleagues in aesthetics and digital technology. Outside of his professional life, he is a father to three children and has a keen interest in nature and water sports.

Dr. Stephane Browet

Stephane Browet was born in 1972 in Asse, Belgium. 

He finished dental school at the Free University of Brussels in 1995. 

He there then followed the Post Graduate Program Aesthetic Dentistry. From 1999 on, he taught rubberdam techniques and adhesive dentistry. He combines nationally and internationally teaching in rubberdam isolation, microscope dentistry, posterior and anterior composites, indirect restorations with a private practice focused on microscope aided restorative dentistry. 

From 2002 untill 2005, he was active in the Scientific Board Conservative Dentistry at the Institute for Continued Education of the Society of Flemisch dentists. He is also a past board member of the Belgian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, a past board member and member of the Academy of Microscope Dentistry, a member of the European Society of Microscope Dentistry, and an active member of the Bio-Emulation Group.

August Bruguera (Spain) is a dental technician and director of his own laboratory and training centre: "Dental Training Center Barcelona". He studied dental prosthetics at the "Ramon i Cajal" college in Barcelona and completed his training during periods at private laboratories in Germany, Italy and Switzerland. August Bruguera is the author of various articles published in magazines in Spain and internationally. He was an editor of the magazine "Dental Excellence España" and has taught courses and addressed conferences in Spain and internationally. Moreover, he is part of the international Bio-emulation study group and an opinion leader at Ivoclar Vivadent. In addition, August Bruguera is a member of the editorial committee of the Spanish edition of the magazine "Dental Dialogue" as well as member of the editorial committee of the Brazilian magazine "Estética". He is the author of the book "Shades: A World of Color", which has been published in Spanish, English and German and joint author with Dr Sidney Kina of the book "Invisible: Ceramic Esthetic Restorations". In 2003, August Bruguera received the Golden Scalpel. He is honorary member of ACADEN (Asociación Científica para Defensa e Investigación de la Prótesis Dental).

Dr. Pierre Dimitrov

Dr Pierre Dimitrov graduated as a doctor of dentistry from MU–FDM Sofia in 2016. He practices in Delta Consult dental clinic, and his focus is on restorative adhesive and prosthetic dentistry supported by digital technologies.

Dr Dimitrov is part of the international BioEmulation group which unites dentists and dental technicians from all over the world – Spain, Greece, Switzerland, USA, Japan, etc. The philosophy of the group is related to the maximum imitation of the mechanics, function and aesthetics of natural dental structures. He is part of the Key Opinion Leaders & Advisory Board group for the development of ceramic CAD/CAM materials and a lecturer for the Japanese dental company GC.

Dr Pierre Dimitrov leads various lecture and practical courses in Bulgaria and abroad on adhesive techniques, indirect ceramic restorations and the application of digital technologies in modern dentistry. Together with the Denta Consult team, he was awarded three times prizes in the “Smile of the Year” competition in the categories “Full Restoration with Digital Prototype” and “Ceramic Restorations”.

Dr. David Gerdolle

David Gerdolle was born in Epinal (France) in May 1970, and is gratuated from the Dental University of Nancy (1993). He has then achieved a number of Postgraduate Diplomas from the Universities of Paris and Gothenburg, in Oral and Osteo-articular  Biology, Implantology, Prosthodontics and Adhesive Dentistry.

David has been member of the teaching staff of the University of Nancy between 1993 and 2005, and he is running a private practice in Vevey-Montreux since 2006. His practice is dedicated to conservative and minimal invasive dentistry. David is currently directing a Postgraduate Certificate at the University of Paris, and is also involved in research programs on resin composites in the University of Nancy.

He is lecturing world while in seminars and congresses, he is also giving hands-on courses and performing live demonstrations on patients in the field of adhesive and minimally invasive dentistry. As an author or an co-author, David has published widely in scientific national and international journals on this topic.

Dr. Marco Gresnigt DMD PhD

Marco Gresnigt graduated cum laude in 2005 from the University of Groningen. In 2012, he received his PhD with the topic laminate veneers. He works at the center for special dental care at the Martini Hospital Groningen where he performs restorative and esthetic treatments using a surgical microscope. At the University of Groningen, he is an associate professor in restorative dentistry, conducts practice based research in the field of restorative/adhesive dentistry and teaches aesthetic and reconstructive dentistry at clinic. He has 5 PhD students and publishes in international journals (>60 peer reviewed; h-factor 27) especially in the field of adhesive restorative dentistry. He gives keynote lectures and masterclasses (inter)nationally in the field of esthetic and adhesive dentistry (www.summitdentistry.nl). He has won several awards such as the GC world clinical case award, Smile award, EAED innovation award and several scientific awards. He was the president of the international Bio-Emulation group and has a group and online-platform for innovative restorative research www.summit-research.org.

ZTM Sascha Hein

Sascha Hein absolvierte 1997 seine Zahntechnische Ausbildung in Bad Wörishofen. Im Jahr 2000 besuchte er das Kuwata College in Itabashi, Tokyo. Nach zahlreichen Auslandsaufenthalten in den Emiraten sowie in Australien absolvierte er 2005 die Meisterschule in Freiburg als Prüfungsbester. 2007 wurde Sascha Hein von Willi Geller in die internationale Oral Design Gruppe aufgenommen. Seit 2012 ist er Mitglied der Bio-Emulation-Gruppe und fungierte von 2014 bis 2016 als ihr Präsident. Gemeinsam mit Dr. Panaghiotis Bazos und Dr. Javier Tapia Guadix entwickelte er von 2013 bis 2016 das eLAB-System. Von 2013 bis 2017 bildete sich Hein unter der Leitung von Prof. Jaap ten Bosch weiter in Farbwissenschaften und optischer Physik. Sascha Hein ist sowohl Autor zahlreicher Fachpublikationen als auch Gutachter für eine Reihe von Fachzeitschriften. Heute lebt und arbeitet er in Freiburg.

Dr Korkut graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry in 2008 and completed his doctorate thesis and PhD in Restorative Dentistry at Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Dental Diseases and Treatments in 2015. He has worked as an academic at Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Restorative Dentistry since 2015, earning an Assistant Professor title in 2018 and an Associate Professor title in 2022. Dr Korkut has many national and international scientific publications about direct and indirect restorations, prerestorative clear aligners, tooth bleaching, clinical dental photography, tooth wear, CAD/CAM restorations, magnification in dentistry, and caries diagnosis and management. He has presented many scientific lectures in national and international dental meetings about dental photography, anterior/posterior composite and ceramic restorations, clear aligners, ICON therapy, tooth bleaching, tooth wear, and restoration complications since 2015. He is a certified Invisalign provider. He has participated as an instructor in more than 100 hands-on courses since 2015. He is a member of the GC Europe Restorative Advisory Board and the Bio-Emulation Group. He is also a key opinion leader and official international speaker of several leading international dental companies such as GC Corp, Hu-Friedy Group Europe, Tokuyama, Dentsply Sirona, Align Technology, Eighteeth, iVeneer, Polydentia, Ivoclar, Busch, and Horico.

Dr. Leandro Pereira

Dr. Leandro Pereira received his DDS degree from the Brazilian Federal University of Maranhão School of Dentistry in 2009,  subsequently completing his post graduate specialty degree in Prosthodontics in 2013 and Implant Dentistry in 2015. Currently he is in a full time private practice in São Luís, with particular clinical emphasis in the adhesive rehabilitation techniques and implant based restorative dentistry. Concurrently he is involved in the postgraduate dental teaching at the Specialization Course of Prosthodontics with the Syndicate of Dental Surgeons in partnership with FACSETE. He is a member of the Bio-Emulation™️ Group since 2011.

ZTM Thomas Sing

Nach seiner Ausbildung arbeitete er ab 2003 vier Jahre als Zahntechniker im Labor Lan- gerspacher & Christ in Bad Wörishofen und absolvierte 2008 in München seine Meister­prüfung. Sein Wissen und seine Erfahrungen vertiefte er durch die Arbeit mit Thilo Vock, Willi Geller, Uli Werder, Walter Gebhard und zwei Jahre mit Joachim Maier. Anschließend ging Thomas Sing nach Boston, Massachusetts. Hier arbeitete er mit Kenneth Malament, DDS (Tufts University), Dan Nathanson, DMD (Boston University), Hans-Peter Weber, DMD (Harvard University), unterrichtet seither als Gastdozent an der Harvard School for Dental Medicine sowie an der Tufts University. Publikationen in diversen Fachzeitschriften. 2012 wurde Thomas Sing Mitglied der renommierten Oral Design Group. Seit 2019 arbeitet er im Praxislabor Oral Design Bogenhausen in München.

Dr. Javier Tapia Guadix

Javier Tapia Guadix wurde 1978 im spanischen Madrid geboren. Er schloss sein Zahnmedizinstudium 2003 an der Universidad Europea de Madrid ab. 2004 war er  Fakultätsmitglied an der Abteilung für Prothetik. 2005 begann er seine Laufbahn als professioneller Computergrafik-Künstler mit dem Schwerpunkt Illustration, Animation und Anwendungsentwicklung. Zu diesem Zweck gründete er das Unternehmen Juice – Dental Media Design. 2005 erhielt er für seine Arbeit in der Kommission für Neue Technologien die Verdienstauszeichnung des spanischen Zahnärzteverbands (Colegio Español de Dentistas de la I Región). 2011 gründete er zusammen mit Panaghiotis Bazos und Gianfranco Politano die Bio-Emulation Group. Er arbeitet aktiv mit mehreren Universitäten in ganz Europa zusammen und ist Mitglied des GC Restorative Advisory  Board. 2014 wurde er offizieller Reviewer für  das Journal of Clinical and Experimental Dentistry und 2017 für das International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry. Dr. Tapia ist in eigener Praxis in Madrid mit dem Schwerpunkt restaurative Zahnheilkunde und Ästhetik tätig. Seine internationale Referententätigkeit umfasst über 250 Kongresse, Hands-on-Kurse und Live-Kurse. Er ist Autor zahlreicher Publikationen auf den Gebieten restaurative Zahnheilkunde, Dentalfotografie und Computer in der Zahnmedizin.

I’m a Prosthodontist and dental technician as well. It’s something uncommon but very important if you want to understand how it all works. Sitting behind a bench was one of the most important and relevant aspects of my professional life. After 21 years at the uni I decided to make a PhD. It was the right step. It gave me critical sense in order to develop a line of research. My interest is in digital dentistry.
