Health care providers performing surgical and minimally invasive facial esthetic procedures require a clear, three- and four-dimensional understanding of the underlying facial anatomy. Recent research has revealed numerous new insights into this topic that lay the foundations for administering the best possible clinical care.
This Atlas compiles the latest scientific findings on facial layer-by-layer anatomy and translates complex concepts into a unique visual experience based on the “Cotofana Dissection Method.” The result is a visual guide for esthetic facial treatments that provides both a reliable source of knowledge and an evidence-based foundation for clinical practice.
CHAPTERS
Forehead, Temples, Glabella, Supraorbital, Infraorbital, Nose, Medial Midface, Lateral Midface, Lips
OUTSTANDING ILLUSTRATIONS
Based on clinical dissections, the illustrations visualize the functional layers of the face according to the latest scientific findings.
PRACTICAL GUIDANCE
The text provides orientation and safety tips for esthetic and surgical facial procedures by highlighting clinically relevant anatomic details.
Professor Sebastian Cotofana is a globally recognized expert in clinical anatomy, whose research has substantially contributed to the detailed understanding of facial anatomy in the context of esthetic medicine. His work emphasizes the anatomical basis of both surgical and minimally invasive procedures, aiming to enhance safety and efficacy in clinical practice. He is the developer of the Cotofana Dissection Method, a systematic, layer-by-layer anatomical approach designed to optimize educational dissection and procedural planning.
Karl H. Wesker is an artist and an illustrator. He has worked for many years on the visualization and didactic presentation of complex structures. He has developed new methods that produce highly detailed and yet esthetically fascinating images of human anatomy. These methods form the foundation of the three-volume atlas of anatomy Prometheus, which is being published by Thieme and for which he has created most of the illustrations.
Following his physiotherapy certification, Dr. Kolster studied human biology and human medicine in Marburg. He has undertaken further clinical studies in physical medicine and other disciplines, with a special focus on the presentation and application of reflex-therapeutic procedures. Dr. Kolster is the author and editor of scientific textbooks in the fields of medicine, physiotherapy, naturopathic medicine, and physical medicine.
