Since the first edition of this book was published almost 20 years ago, pediatric dentistry has developed into an established and innovative discipline that offers many exciting new approaches. Of particular note in this regard is the change in the understanding of caries, which enables effective options for caries inactivation or the restoration of teeth “without drilling.” In addition, a variety of methods for the behavior management of children and the use of nitrous oxide sedation are now available, which also facilitate treatment.

The new edition of the book follows a modern, evidence-based, participatory overall concept for pediatric dentistry that focuses on prevention, diagnostics, and early treatment. This is organized in the context of underlying diseases, dysgnathia, and function as well as the care situation, including the recognition of developmental disorders and child abuse. Practical examples, illustrations and cases, flowcharts, billing instructions, and checklists facilitate implementation in everyday practice. Many topics and techniques are illustrated with additional video sequences that can be accessed via QR codes. The textbook is aimed at dentists, prophylaxis teams, and students and aims to support the dental care of children and adolescents with its comprehensive overview.
