Dr. Jens Tartsch, PD Dr. Stefan Röhling, Prof. André Chen, Dr. Frank Maier M.Sc.
Professor Dr. med. Dr. med. dent. Bilal Al-Nawas is Chairman of the Department of Oral, Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery at the J. Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany. He has been Adjunctive Associate Professor at Kyung Hee University School of Dentistry, Seoul, Korea since 2009. Professor Al-Nawas’ major clinical and scientific focus in dental implantology is on clinical studies and basic research. His clinical field of work is compromised patients with risk factors or local bone deficiency, as well as tumor and cleft reconstructions. He has published over 200 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He sits on the ITI Board of Directors and the ITI Research Committee, is an ITI Fellow and ITI Education Delegate of the ITI Section Germany. He was twice awarded “Best Teacher at the Medical Faculty”. He is Past President of the International Federation of Dental Anesthesiology Societies (IFDAS) and Secretary General of the German Society of Implantology (DGI).
Tomas Albrektsson joined P I Branemark's team in 1967 and has since been active in applied osseointegration research of oral, craniofacial and orthopedic implants. Albrektsson graduated from Gothenburg University (MD:1975; PhD:1979) where he has served as Professor & Head of the department of Biomaterials from 1986. He has been a visiting professor at Eastman Dental, University College of London since 1998, Laney visiting professor of the Mayo clinic in the US in 2008, is a visiting professor in the prosthodontics department of Malmö University and is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He has presented more than 1100 lectures and published scientific and clinical papers in various peer-reviewed journals.
Pr. Jérôme chevalier works at both the I2B and the CERA groups of the MATEIS laboratory. He is the head of the MATEIS laboratory and a member of the prestigious "Institut Universitaire de France" (IUF). The research activities of Pr. Chevalier are shared between fabrication and testing of modern ceramics useful for biomedical application. His worldwide reknown for experience zirconia-based ceramics and composites. Current responsabilities: Member of the CNU section 28, Member of the administration council of the french society of metals and materials (SF2M) and head of the biomaterials section, Member of the council of the competitiveness pole Viaméca, editor of the European Ceramic Society journal, member of the JECS Trust council, coordinator of the FP7 LONGLIFE european project, WP leader european project FP7 Biobone, member of the management commottee and WG leader of the COST NEWGEN euorpean project.
Dr Joseph Choukroun completed his degree in medicine in 1979 at the University of Montpellier, France. He specialised in General Surgery & Anesthesiology in 1981 than continued his studies in Pain Management at the University of Strasbourg, France. Dr Choukroun is the owner of Private Pain Clinic in Nice, France. He is the President of SYFAC, International Symposium on Growth Factors and author of several scientific papers.
Prof Reinhard Gruber holds a PhD in Biotechnology and has worked at the University Clinic of Dentistry at the Medical University of Vienna since 1999. He was Vice Director of the Curriculum for Dentistry and founded the PhD program “Bone and Joint Regeneration.” Prof Gruber was active as a visiting scientist at the Bone Tissue Engineering Center of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and at the Dental School of the University of Michigan. From 2012 to 2014, he headed the Oral Cell Biology Laboratory at the Dental Clinics of the University of Bern, to which he is still affiliated. In October 2014, Prof Gruber was appointed Professor of Oral Biology at the Medical University of Vienna. He is a trustee of the Osteology Foundation, a member of the ITI Research Committee, and a scientific advisor to the Austrian Society for Bone and Mineral Metabolism. From 2008 to 2015, Prof Gruber was Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Stomatology & Occlusion Medicine and the Journal of Stomatology of the Austrian Society of Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine. He is currently Associate Editor of Clinical Oral Implants Research and the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants, and serves on several editorial boards, including the Journal of Dental Research, Periodontology 2000, and Clinical Oral Investigations. Prof Gruber and his team have published over 250 original articles and reviews in international journals and numerous book chapters in the field of regenerative dentistry.
Ronald Jung is trained in oral surgery, prosthodontics and implant therapy. He is currently Head Division of Implantology at the Clinic of Reconstructive Dentistry, Center of Dental Medicine, University of Zürich. In 2006 he worked as Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Periodontics at the University of Texas Heath Science Center at San Antonio, USA (Chairman: Prof. Dr. D. Cochran). 2008 he finalized his "Habilitation" (venia legendi) in dental medicine and was appointed at the University of Zürich. In 2011 he became his PhD doctorate degree of the University of Amsterdam, ACTA dental school, The Netherlands. In 2013 he worked as Visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences at Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston, USA. In 2015 he has been promoted to full Professorship for Implantology at the University of Zurich. He is an accomplished and internationally renowned lecturer and researcher, best known for his work in the field of hard and soft tissue management and his research on new technologies in implant dentistry. He is currently Treasurer of the EAO, Past President of the Swiss Society of Reconstructive Dentistry, member of the Board of Directors of the Osteology Foundation and active Member of the EAED.
Prof. Dr. R. J. Kohal, born in 1961, studied dentistry at the University of Freiburg, Germany from 1984 to 1989 and received his Dr. med. dent. from the same university in 1991. From 1990 to 1993, he worked as an assistant in the Prosthetic Department of the University Dental Clinic in Freiburg. From 1993 to 1995, he was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Texas in Houston, USA. Since 1995, he has been a senior physician at the Department of Dental Prosthetics at Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, Germany, and a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas in Houston, USA. In 1996, he was appointed as an academic councilor, in 1998 as an academic senior councilor, and in 2001 as an academic director and deputy medical director. In 1998, he qualified as a "specialist" of the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials e.V. In 2002, he received his habilitation and was appointed as a private lecturer. In the same year, he was certified as a focus area implantologist by the Implantology Consensus Conference. In 2003, he was certified as a speaker in the focus area implantology by the Implantology Consensus Conference. In 2005, he was awarded the title of "Extraordinary Professor" by the University of Freiburg.
Prof. Dr. Sebastian Kühl is a specialist in Oral Surgery. He is Vice Clinical Director of the Department of Oral Surgery, University Center for Dental Medicine Basel UZB, Switzerland. Since 2018, he has been Founder and Head of the Competence Center for Implantology at the UZB, and President of the Swiss Society for Oral Surgery and Stomatology (SSOS).
Since 2016: Deputy Head of the Clinical Department for Oral Surgery and Orthodontics at the University Clinic for Dentistry and Oral Health at the Medical University of Graz. Since 2014: Associate Professorship at the Clinical Department for Oral Surgery and Orthodontics at the University Clinic for Dentistry and Oral Health at the Medical University of Graz. 2013: Research stay at the Clinic for Crown and Bridge Prosthetics and Material Science at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. 2012: Visiting Professor at the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, Dept. Implant Dentistry & Oral Rehabilitation, University of Hong Kong. 2011: Research stay at the Clinic for Oral Surgery at Heinrich Heine University, Düsseldorf. Since 04/2010: Private lecturer at the Clinical Department for Oral Surgery and Orthodontics at the University Clinic for Dentistry and Oral Health at the Medical University of Graz. 2009: DGI-APW Implantology Curriculum (Germany). 2005-2010: Assistant at the Clinical Department for Oral Surgery and Orthodontics at the University Clinic for Dentistry and Oral Health at the Medical University of Graz. 2003-2006: Doctoral studies in Medical Sciences at MedUni Graz. 2004-2005: Postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Cell Biology, Histology and Embryology, Center for Molecular Medicine, MedUni Graz. Since 2004: Private practice in Graz. 1998-2004: Diploma studies in Dentistry, Medical University of Graz. 2000: Research stay at the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Pittsburgh (UPMC), USA. 1994-2000: Diploma studies in Human Medicine, Karl-Franzens University, Graz.
Dr Roehling received his dental degree from the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany 2009. Between 2007 and 2009, he worked for AO Research Institute, Davos, Switzerland. Currently, he is leading a private practice in Munich, Germany, and working at the University Hospital, Basel, Switzerland. Dr. Röhling is a speaker for the International Team for Implantology, and since 2006, he has been involved in many experimental and clinical studies dealing with zirconia dental implants. As first and co-author, he has published many journal articles dealing with ceramic implants, and he is also the first author of a book chapter dealing with dental implant surfaces.
PD Dr. med. dent. Nadja Rohr is head of the Biomaterials and Technology research group at the University Center for Dental Medicine Basel UZB, Switzerland and head of dental technicians. The group analyzes clinical challenges and finds a translational research approach to provide convincing evidence-based solutions for clinicians and manufacturers.Nadja Rohr lectures on dental materials for bachelor and master students and is involved in practical courses in Reconstructive Dentistry at the University of Basel. She studied dentistry in Basel where she also received her doctoral degree in 2016. To gain a more in depth understanding of material-cell interaction, she spent a year at the Cell Biology Department in Rostock, Germany in 2018. Since 2020 she holds a PD title in Reconstructive Dentistry and finished a Master of Business Administration degree at the FHNW in 2023.
Prof. Dr. Dr. Eik Schiegnitz is Head of the Division of Implantology at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Mainz, Germany. He obtained his medical degree (2009) from the University of Giessen and his dental degree (2013) from the University of Mainz. In 2008 he received his degree as Bachelor of Health Sciences (Riedlingen, Germany). In 2020 he obtained the Master of Science Implantology und Parodontology at the University of Witten/Herdecke. Since 2019 he is Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI Fellow). Since 2020 he is Spokesman of the Leadership-Teams of the National Osteology Group Germany. Since 2021 he is Board Member of the DGI (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Implantologie) and since 2022 he is Chief-Editor of the International Journal of Implant Dentistry (IJID). Since 2023 he is part of the Leadership-Team (Education Delegate) of the International Team for Implantology Germany.
Dr. Frank Spitznagel is an Associate Professor at the Department of Prosthodontics, University Hospital Düsseldorf and Heinrich-Heine-University, Düsseldorf, Germany. He graduated in 2014 from the University of Freiburg and obtained his Dr. med. Dent degree from the same University in 2016. He was awarded with the 1st prize “Young Esthetics” from the Germany Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (DGÄZ) in 2019 and received a research fellowship from the International College of Prosthodontists (ICP) in 2022-2023. He has also won the first place at the premiere of the ITI Open Mic New Speaker Contest (ITI – International Team for Implantology) in September 2022 in Germany. Dr. Spitznagel is a board certified prosthodontist of the German Society of Prosthodontics and Biomaterials (DGPro) and certified in Implant Dentistry (DGI- German Society of Implantology). His clinical and scientific focus is in the field of fixed tooth- and implant-supported all-ceramic reconstructions, digital workflows and implant dentistry.
