Studium der Zahnmedizin an der Universität Hiroshima, Abschluss 1987. 1992–1993 Spezialisierung in Parodontologie, Restaurativer Zahnheilkunde und Implantologie am Japan Institute for Advanced Dentistry Studies. 1991 Gründung einer eigenen Praxis in Hakui, Ishikawa (seit 1998 in Kanazawashi, Ishikawa). Dr. Funato ist Mitgründer und Präsident von 5-D Japan (Institute of periodontics, endodontics, implantology, microscopic dentistry and esthetics), Vizepräsident des Osseointegration Study Club of Japan und Mitglied der American Academy of Periodontology, der Academy of Osseointegration sowie der European Association for Osseointegration. Er lehrt an der Zahnmedizinischen Hochschule Kanagawa.

Dr. Ishikawa ist Mitgründer von 5-D Japan (Institute of periodontics, endodontics, implantology, microscopic dentistry and esthetics), Instrukteur der Japanese Academy of Clinical Periodontology  und  Präsident des Osseointegration Study  Club of Japan. Er ist Mitglied der American Academy of Periodontolog y und der Academy of Osseointegration.
